140KW SOLAR PROJECT FOR WEDGWOOD ASSOC. IN WAYNE, NJ.

Project Data

End-User:   Wedgewood Plaza

Installer: American Energy Technologies

Location: Wayne, NJ

Date of install:  August 2007 – January 2008

Size of system in kW: 146kW

Energy produced since installation

Special Challenges Met: 1) Project was originally to use crystalline modules but results of the wind analysis lead to change to thin film.

 Project Brief

Wedgewood Plaza is a retail center in Wayne, NJ. American Energy Technologies provided customer liaison and project management. Turtle Energy designed a Photovoltaic system to be installed on the retail center. Nu-Tek Roof Systems installed the 1080 Uni-Solar PVL 136W panels.  VPV Electric completed the electrical work.

Turtle Energy undertook a detailed analysis of the site. This analysis was comprised of the following steps and implementation.

Shading Analysis

Optimal System Design and Concept Planning

Industrial Design of the Components of the System

Multi-Disciplinary Coordination with Architects, Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Construction Management.

The project was originally a crystalline module project. Turtle Energy took engineering advice that caused a change to the type of module used, the wind analysis for the site was not compatible with crystalline and therefore the proposed Photovoltaic system was redesigned for thin film. Nu-Tek Roofing Systems cleaned the existing roof and installed the 1080 Uni-Solar PVL 136W Modules. VPV Electric wired up the project and AET provided project management.

The project commenced in August of 2007 and the system was commissioned in January of 2008. The size of the PV system for Wedgewood Plaza is 146kW.

Fat Spaniel’s integrated Satcon inverter direct internet-based monitoring system was implemented and Fat Spaniel data acquisition illustrations show snapshots of the actual energy generation by the PV system for Wedgewood Plaza. These measurements are in compliance with the predicted analysis done by TurtleEnergy and in some cases slightly exceed the target energy output range. Data monitoring results are available both on a real-time and historical basis. Measurements can be viewed on daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or lifetime intervals. The installed PV system has successfully helped reduce the on-grid energy usage.
